ARTHUR – Robert D. Watkins, 87, of Arthur passed away at 11:54 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 16, 2013) at St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today (Friday, Jan. 18) at Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine St., Arthur. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Arthur United Methodist Church, 128 E. Illinois St., Arthur. Pastor Leroy Allison will officiate. Graveside services with military rites will follow in the Arthur Cemetery.
Bob was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Findlay, the son of O.R. (Buck) and Ruth Watkins. Bob was a veteran of U.S. Army, serving in Europe during World War II. Following the war, he graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University and was employed by Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company. He held a variety of management positions at the company for 35 years before retiring in 1986.
During retirement, he worked and served as the secretary/treasurer of Delbert's Clothing Inc.
Bob married Marjorie Peters in Melvin in 1953. She survives along with their son, Rob, and his wife, Michelle, and two grandchildren, Brandon and Brittney of Brentwood, Tenn.
Bob enjoyed golfing and spending the winters in Florida. He was a member of the Arthur United Methodist Church and the Mattoon Rotary Club.
