CHAMPAIGN – Violet D. Roberts, 85, of Champaign went to be with her loved ones in the presence of the Lord at 1:50 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 20, 2013) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at St. John Lutheran Church, 509 S. Mattis Ave., Champaign. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.
Violet was born Sept. 10, 1927, in rural Effingham County, the daughter of Albert and Louise (Traub) Mellendorf. She married Hobert Roberts on May 29, 1964, at St. John Lutheran Church in Champaign. He preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 2009.
She is survived by one stepson, Hobert D. "Butch" Roberts of Monticello; one stepdaughter, Linda (Craig) Burgess of Junction City, Ore.; six stepgrandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; two step-great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Jeri (Delbert) Mundt of Dieterich; one brother, Leroy (Natalie) Mellendorf of Effingham; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Eugene, Harlan and Ardon; sister, Alberta Garbe; and two nephews.
Violet was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Company in Effingham, then transferred to Champaign. She retired in 1982 after 35 1/2 years.
She enjoyed counted cross stitch, traveling with her husband Hobert and taking pictures. She and her husband enjoyed many winters in Florida.
She was also a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Champaign.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
