CHAMPAIGN – Robert Coke Ellis, 79, of Champaign passed away at 3 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 26, 2013) at the Gibson Area Hospital Annex in Gibson City surrounded by family.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Alta, of 25 years in 2009. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City with Bob Shelton officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Drummer Township Cemetery in Gibson City with military rites by the Lee Lowery American Legion Post 568.

Mr. Ellis was born Nov. 15, 1933, in Danville, a son of Robert M. and Elisabeth Cronkkite Ellis. He served in the United States Army with the 570th military police company railway guard stationed in Berlin, Germany, from 1956 to 1958 and the Army Reserve from 1958 to 1962. He returned home to Champaign to work for National Cash Register Company, retiring after 30 years.

Bob married Alta Tull in 1983. Ever the devoted husband and father, he was the perfect example of what a husband and father should be. Bob and Alta traveled extensively, spending the winters at their home in Florida and the summers at their home in Champaign, which allowed Bob to fulfill his passion for golfing year around.

Surviving Bob are his sister, Martha Lomax of Fairmount; a brother, Don Ellis of Paris; seven children, Jim (Debbie) Tull of Fulton, Ky., Linda (Joe) Zeigler and Tom (Kitty) Tull, both of Gibson City, Rob (Donna) Tull of Clinton, Ky., Sandy (Bob) Shelton of Gibson City, Marvin Tull of Paxton and Carol (Mark) Lefkowitz of Gibson City; 32 grandchildren; and 60 great- grandchildren, all of whom will hold the memories of Bob close to their hearts. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
