GIBSON CITY – Franklin A. Sharp, 90, of Gibson City died at 11:20 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 27, 2013) at his home, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Gibson City United Methodist Church, 206 E. 10th St., Gibson City, with Rev. John Tennyson officiating. Burial will follow in Drummer Township Cemetery, Gibson City.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the church.
Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Franklin was born June 18, 1922, in Wall Township, Ford County, Ill., the son of Harry Austin and Ella Peters Sharp. He married Lois Jane Haley on Feb. 5, 1944, in Paxton. She preceded him in death on June 11, 2011.
Survivors include two daughters, Carla (Robert) Miller of Melvin and Kristie (Kevin) Wright of Homer; five grandchildren, Carrie (Tim) Young, Kirk (Denise) Miller, Haley (Ryan) Frerichs, Sarah (Shaun) Chesnut and Drew (Margaret) Wright; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edgar and Charles Sharp; and two sisters, Faye and Ruth Sharp.
Franklin graduated from Melvin High School. He spent his lifetime farming. After his retirement from farming in 1986, he and his wife moved to Gibson City.
He was a member of the Gibson City United Methodist Church. He loved "Big Band Music" and in their younger years, he and Jane would dance every weekend.
