Robert Yontz Jr.

FREEPORT – Robert Riggs Yontz Jr. of Freeport passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013.

Bob was born on April 14, 1939, in Aurora to Bob Yontz Sr. and Lucille Stoddard Yontz. Bob grew up in Chrisman.

He graduated from Chrisman High School in 1957. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1959 and served until 1963.

Bob received degrees from Eastern Illinois University, the University of Illinois and St. Louis University.

Bob's life was spent living in various places. Among them were Wisconsin, South Carolina, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri and Illinois.

Bob was a lifelong educator and librarian. Bob was an academic to the core and had a tremendous social conscience.

After his retirement in 2004, he continued to challenge his mind by enrolling in advanced mathematics courses. He enjoyed reading and listening to news and sporting events. Bob was an avid follower of Illini sports.

Bob is survived by his two sons, Robby Yontz of St. Louis, Mo.; David Yontz of Columbia, Mo.; three grandchildren, Isaac, Leo and Zipporah Yontz of Columbia, Mo.; sister Katrina Archer (Nelson) of Chatham; brother-in-law, Isaac Marcadis of West Palm Beach, Fla.; nieces, Rebecca Swords (Tim) of West Palm Beach, Fla., Deborah Marcadis (John) of Atlanta, Ga., Miriam Kisch (Glenn) of Indianapolis, Ind., and Amy Jachim (Jeff) of Lisle; and nephew, Jeff Archer (Kristi) of Decatur.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elizabeth Yontz Marcadis.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Woodland Cemetery, Chrisman.
