CHAMPAIGN – Helen Lavone Lee, 96, of Greenville, S.C., formerly of Champaign and Shelbyville, died at 2:15 a.m. Monday (Jan. 28, 2013) at Magnolia Manor, Greenville, S.C.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with the Rev. Mark Sanders officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
Helen was born April 5, 1916, in Okaw Township, Shelby County, the daughter of Charles Howell and Josephine Miami Mackrell Williams. She was a retired wholesale narcotics distributor. She married Harry I. Lee on Dec. 9, 1943. He died on May 1, 1982.
She is survived by her son, Gale Lee of Bastrop, Texas; daughters, Jewell Radich of Wildomar, Calif., Betty Fillinger of Rantoul and Harrietta Lindahl of Williamston, S.C.; brother, Ivan Williams of Cerro Gordo; step-brothers, Carl McClain of Shelbyville and Earl McClain of Findlay; 23 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; 55 great-great- grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; daughter, Maria Boatz on Jan. 23, 2013; brothers, Leo Glenn Williams, James Fred Williams, Charles Harrell Williams and Herbert Raymond Williams; and sisters, Hazel Nolan, Edith Gordon and Beatrice Maude Woods.
