CHAMPAIGN – Eddie "Pa Pa" McNutt, 102, began his life on Sept. 4, 1910, in Poplar Creek, Miss., the son of Willie and Sara Taylor McNutt.
He married the late Maggie Woodard in 1938 in Kosciusko, Miss. He accepted Christ at an early age at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Mississippi. He maintained a committed walk with his Savior to the very end and was a member of Salem Baptist Church of Champaign for more than 50 years. Eddie moved to Champaign in 1959.
Eddie was a kind and loving individual who was a joy to spend time with. He was a member of Laborers Local 703 for 52 years. He worked for Champaign Asphalt for 28 years as a rakeman, and worked at Christie Clinic as a janitor for 35 years.
He was a former member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed working, cooking, hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
Eddie transitioned peacefully at 8:40 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 26, 2013).
He leaves cherishing him with loving memories three sons, Rayford McNutt, Percy (Sandra) McNutt and Charles McNutt, and a daughter, Christine McNutt Bailey, all of Champaign; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services to celebrate the life of Eddie McNutt will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Salem Baptist Church, 500 E. Park Ave., Champaign, with the Rev. Claude E. Shelby Sr. officiating.
Eddie will be laid to rest in Mount Hope Cemetery in Champaign. Visitation will be held Saturday at the church beginning two hours prior to the service.
