MONTICELLO – Ellen E. Meece, 84, of Monticello passed away at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 5, 2013) at the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.
Ellen was born Dec. 29, 1928, in Willow Branch Township, Ill., the daughter of William F. and Anna (Huisinga) Lyons. She married George L. "Doc" Meece on June 20, 1948, in Monticello. He passed away on March 14, 2009.
Survivors include her daughter, Ann (Jim) McIntosh of Monticello; son, Terry (Karla) Meece of Oliver Springs, Tenn.; grandchildren, Kimberly (Rusty) Hislope, Brian (Melissa) McIntosh, Katherine (Paul) Endris, Megan Meece and Ryan Meece; great-grandchildren, Natalie McIntosh, Logan Hislope, Camden McIntosh, George Meece and Nikkie Jordan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Herman Lyons, Bill Lyons and Elmer Lyons; and three sisters, Edna Sullivan, Herberta McCord and Leona Lyons.
Ellen worked as a receptionist for Dr. George Green and was a cook in the Lincoln School cafeteria.
She was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church.
Ellen also enjoyed flower and fruit gardening with the Meece's Farm Market.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello, with the Rev. Michael Whitaker officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Monticello Township Cemetery.
