CHAMPAIGN – Dr. Joseph P. Hanoka, 84, of Champaign died on Tuesday (Feb. 5, 2013) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Friends may greet the family from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign.
Joseph was born Jan. 26, 1929, in New York, N.Y., a son of Dr. N.S. and Rebecca (Siegel) Hanoka. He married Vera Jamison in Champaign on Nov. 5, 1966.
He is survived by his wife, Vera; six children, Lenore of Lynn, Mass., Michael (Joy) of Tucson, Ariz., Steve (Jill) of Foot Hill Ranch, Calif., Jamie of Mahomet, David of Rock Hill, S.C., and Michelle "Chellie" Piontek of Tucson, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Rose Leokum; brother, Leonard; and son-in-law, Grant Piontek.
Dr. Hanoka graduated from the University of Miami and National College of Chiropractic. He worked as a chiropractic physician in the Robeson Building for over 50 years.
He was a 32nd degree Mason, belonged to the Elks Club, and was a trustee for Hensley Township. He was a member of the Elks Bowling League for many years and played on the Park District Senior Softball League.
