CHAMPAIGN – Johnnie A. Floyd Unzicker, 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, was called home to God Friday, Feb. 15, 2013.
There will be a funeral service at noon Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign, with the visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Charlie Graul will officiate. Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign.
She was born May 25, 1925, to Wallace and Myrtle (Gregory) in DeKalb County, Alabama.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil Unzicker; sons, Wilburn "Sonny" (Patty) Floyd of Champaign, Gregory Floyd of Fort Payne, Ala.; stepsons, Dennis (Linda) Unzicker of Champaign, Randy Unzicker of Tucson, Ariz.; and stepdaughters, Janet (Charlie) Graul of Sidell, Sandra Maggio of Tucson, Ariz., Lisa (Clark) Wilson of Tucson, Ariz. She also had 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jimmie O'Neal Floyd; daughter, Sara J. Reynolds; son, Danny O. Floyd; stepson, Steve Unzicker; sister, Jean Brown; and brother, Max Gregory.
Johnnie was an excellent seamstress and worked at Redwood and Ross, Jos. Kuhn's and Baskins. After Virgil and she retired, they enjoyed traveling, but especially enjoyed trips to Alabama. She also loved flowers and watching the birds from her window.
She was an amazing woman who loved to spend time with her family. Johnnie's home was always open to her children, grandchildren and their friends. You could always count on Sunday dinners at her house. She gave so much to her family and will be truly missed.
