WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Carol H. Springer passed away early the morning of Feb. 5, 2013, in Woodland Hills, Calif., where she had resided since 2008.
Carol was born March 6, 1924, in Dewey, to Mary and Paul Hyde. She attended Dewey schools and graduated from Rantoul Township High School in 1941.
After graduation she worked in Washington, D.C., for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She later returned to Rantoul and worked at Chanute Air Force Base. On Aug. 24, 1947, she married Ervin A. Springer in Rantoul.
Throughout the years, she was very active within her community. She was a devoted member of the Rantoul Junior Woman's Club, and PEO Chapter HA; she was also an elected city official and served multiple terms on the Rantoul Library Board.
After her husband's retirement, she became a licensed real estate agent and worked with clients in Rantoul until her retirement in 1998 when she and Ervin moved to Scottsdale, Ariz.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband and her brother, Paul Hyde.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill of Menlo Park, Calif.; son, Marc of Woodland Hills, Calif.; granddaughters, Maria and Sophia Springer, and grandson, Luke Springer; her sister-in-law, Betty Hyde of Denver, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
All of us are better for knowing her and we continue to benefit from her warmth, genuine kindness and empathy for others.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Lux Memorial Chapel, Rantoul.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Rantoul First United Methodist Church.
