CHAMPAIGN – Mary Elizabeth Nickerson, 51, of Champaign passed away on Thursday (Feb. 14, 2013) at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Celebration of life services will be at noon Friday at The Church of The Living God, 1109 N. Fourth St., Champaign. Bishop Lloyd E. Gwin will be the officiant. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Friday.
Mary was born Nov. 22, 1961, in Chicago to William Nickerson and Margret Walker. As a young lady Mary moved to Urbana's Cunningham Children's Home and later graduated from Urbana High School.
Shortly after high school, Mary was employed with the City of Urbana as a meter maid.
Mary loved to play cards and listen to music artists such as Michael Jackson, the Temptations, Kem and Jamie Foxx. During Mary's quiet time, she enjoyed reading books by V.C. Andrews and African American authors such as Donald Goines.
Mary leaves to mourn her passing special companion Barry Miles; daughters Shanell Nickerson and Clarissa Nickerson-Forman; three brothers, Clifford Walker, Kenneth Walker and William Nickerson Jr.; five sisters, Beatrice Walker, Vivian Walker, Evelyn Nickerson, Ellen Nickerson and Charlene Nickerson; also, longtime friend through thick and thin for over 30 years, Pam Marshall, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother and father.
Mary would always depart from her friends and family by saying the words, "Baby Bye!"
Services were graciously entrusted by Williams Memorial Services Ltd.
