George Hatchel

PESOTUM – George N. Hatchel, 68, of Pesotum, formerly of Villa Grove, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family at 10:40 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy. The Rev. Rob Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery, Pesotum.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at the funeral home.

George was born March 18, 1944, in Champaign, the seventh born to Eddie and Pearle Bridges Hatchel. He married Rose M. Ware on Feb. 16, 1969, in Tuscola. She survives. They enjoyed 44 years of marriage.

Also surviving are one daughter, Dawn M. Hatchel (Michael Maggio) of Pesotum; one grandson, Tyler Schweighart (Caitlin) of Las Vegas, Nev.; three brothers, Jack Hatchel (Carol) of Haven, Kan., Everett Hatchel of Pesotum and Harlen Hatchel of Tuscola; four sisters, Florence Laughlin (Don) of Atwood, Minnie Vandeventer (Les) of Camargo, Ruth Bates of Ivesdale and Doris Schull (Tom) of Villa Grove; two sisters-in-law, Helen Hatchel of Camargo and Alice Hatchel of Villa Grove; and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Myron Hatchel and Harvey Hatchel; one nephew, Scott Hatchel; one niece, Vickie Holzinger; and one great-niece, Erin Hettinger-Lindelof.

George was a 1963 graduate of Atwood High School. He worked as a carpenter, starting with Meneley Construction Company in Pesotum in 1962 until the late 1980s. He later started with English Brothers Company in Champaign until his retirement in 2005.

He was a member of Carpenter's local No. 44 in Champaign and the Parkville United Methodist Church.

George was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. George had a strong love of family and was always willing to lend a hand. His carpentry work is in the homes of many.
