GIFFORD – Alvin W. Ehmen, 85, of Gifford died at 10 a.m. on Feb. 27, 2013, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Flatville. The Rev. James Lehmann and the Rev. Barbara Busboom will officiate. Burial will be in Huls Cemetery in rural Gifford.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 East Grove Ave., Rantoul.
Mr. Ehmen was born Sept. 24, 1927, in Compromise Township, a son of Wilm and Trientje (Sage) Ehmen. He married Ethel L. Saathoff in Gifford on July 22, 1949. She preceded him in death on June 28, 2010.
Mr. Ehmen is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Larry) Corbly of rural Rantoul, Marleen (Richard) Peavler of rural Ludlow and Diane (Curt) Shields of Rantoul. He is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Mr. Ehmen was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister and a granddaughter.
A lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, he served on the church committee as a Trustee and Treasurer.
Mr. Ehmen farmed in rural Gifford. He was born, raised and lived on the same farm his entire life. Mr. Ehmen enjoyed working on his farm and loved spending time with his family as much as they loved spending time with him.
