SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Dennis Michael Rasmusson, 63, of Santa Monica, Calif., and formerly of Champaign, passed away at 5:33 a.m. on Feb. 25, 2013, at the UCLA Medical Center and Orthopedic Hospital in Santa Monica, Calif., after a 23-year struggle with MS.
He was born May 12, 1949, in Urbana, to Dr. Lester (Rhoda Wolfe) Rasmusson.
He is survived by two sisters, Dee Dee Hines and Maggie (Joe) Kurlakowsky, both of Champaign; nephew, Joe Hines of Sidney; nieces, Jennie (Michael) Pendergast of Wakefield, R.I., Kathryn (Ryan) of Champaign and Kristyn (Adam Fischer) Kurlakwsky, also of Champaign. Also surviving are great-nieces, Maggie Pendergast and Annalea Hines; and great-nephew, Cole Pendergast.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Timothy P. Rasmusson; and two nephews.
He graduated from Champaign Central High School and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Champaign.
He owned and operated Rasmusson Optical in downtown Champaign and was also an optician in Florida and California.
Private services will be conducted by Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy.
