MAHOMET – Wesley A. Carpenter, 74, a resident of Mahomet, died on Friday (June 7, 2013) at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Mahomet Church of the Nazarene, 702 Turkey Farm Road, Mahomet, at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, with the Rev. Lutz Braunig officiating. Masonic rites and military honors will be accorded. As per Wes' wishes, please dress casually.
Wesley A. Carpenter was born March 28, 1939, in Jackson County, Mich., a son of Lee D. and Georgia "Blondie" (Moyers) Carpenter. He was united in marriage to Gayanne Gates on July 8, 1962, at the Mahomet Methodist Church, Mahomet.
Wes served our country for six years (1958-1963) in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he joined the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 841, Terre Haute, Ind., and remained a member for 48 years. He was a heavy-equipment operator specializing as a crane operator.
He was a member of the Mahomet Masonic Lodge No. 220 and a 32nd degree Mason with the Masonic Consistory, Danville. Wes was a friend of Bill W. for 42 years.
He is survived by his wife, Gayanne; his sister, Harlene Helton of Rantoul; brothers, Douglas Carpenter (Kathy) of Newton, Iowa, and David Carpenter (Sheryle) of Mahomet; 14 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gary Carpenter; sister, Marveta Langenbau; and nephew, Christopher Carpenter.
