CHAMPAIGN – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, for Evangelist Mary E. Mullen, 88, at The Church Of The Living God, 1109 N. Fourth St., Champaign. Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, July 26, and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, also at the church.

She died at 9:10 p.m. Monday, July 22, at Helia Healthcare of Champaign.

Evangelist Mullen was born Mary E. Gillon on July 1, 1925, in Gore Springs, Miss. She was one of seven children born to Eugene and Bevie O. Gillon. On April 21, 1948, she married Randolph Mullen and they were blessed with two sons.

In 1967, Evangelist Mullen became pastor of The Church of the Living God, Champaign. She not only dedicated her life to Christ, but she also dedicated her life to improving the quality of life for seniors and children in the neighborhood and community. Evangelist Mullen was responsible for establishing The Church of the Living God Day Care Center and was instrumental in the group responsible for establishing the Eastern Illinois Foodbank in Champaign.

She also served as the Administrative Representative of the Mother of World War II Veterans for Illinois, and as president of the Carver Park Association. Through the many years of her pastoring and community work, Evangelist Mullen set an example of righteousness and service.

Evangelist Mary Mullen is survived by her husband, Randolph Mullen; and children, William (Gloria) Gillon and Randolph Mullen III. Also surviving are two sisters, Estelle Hardiman and Lula Carter; one brother, the Rev. James E. (Gloria) Gillon; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives who were all dear to her heart.
