PAXTON – Liston "J.R." Sutton Jr., 76, of Paxton died at 5:35 p.m. Friday (Aug. 23, 2013) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at Church of Christ, 400 W. Ottawa, Paxton, with the Rev. Tom Anders officiating. Burial will follow in Elliott Cemetery, Elliott.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells St., Paxton, and one hour before the funeral at the church.
J. R. was born April 4, 1937, in Greensburg, Ky., the son of Liston E. and Mary H. Murray Sutton. He married Linda Callaway in 1956. She preceded him in death on May 2, 1994. He married Wilma Blackford Wickenhauser in November 2000 in Sidell. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Joy (Louie) Rodriquez of Marysville, Calif., Brenda (Keith) Allgood of Marysville, Calif., and Lora Judd of Spokane, Wash.; two sons, Glen (Terri) Sutton of Marysville, Calif., and Toby (Tina) Sutton of Paxton; one stepson, Todd (Barb) Wickenhauser of Panama City, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marjorie Bradford of Bedford, Ind., Julie Brown of Fairmont and Irene Miller of Danville; and three brothers, Don (Millie) Sutton of Paxton, Albert (Frieda) Sutton of Paxton and Larry (Barb) Sutton of Buckley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sharron; and one sister, Ann Newell.
J. R. lived in California for 20 years before returning to Ford County and Paxton in 1983. He worked in maintenance at the Illinois Knights Templar Home, Paxton, for a number of years and has always worked in construction. He was a member of the Paxton Church of Christ.
His hobbies included fishing, woodworking and gardening. He enjoyed visiting with his friends every morning at the Arcade Restaurant.
