CHAMPAIGN – Lee Ola "Lola" Williams, 91, of Champaign passed away at 11:02 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 22, 2013) at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Center at Clarke-Lindsey Village, Urbana.
She was born Jan. 4, 1922, in Goldwaite, Texas, to William J. and Dilla Jones Kelso. She married Lt. Col. Walter "Bill" Williams in Pecos, Texas, on July 27, 1944, after meeting at a USO dance and he preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 2008.
Surviving is one daughter, Donna (Jack) Davis of Champaign; three grandchildren, Kenneth (Gail) Davis of Fargo, N.D., Jennifer Davis of Champaign and Christopher (Stacy) Kirby of Champaign; and three great-grandchildren, Virginia and Bennett Kirby, both of Champaign, and Lucius Davis of Fargo, N. D.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia Kirby, and one brother and three sisters.
After over 20 years of moving as a military wife, Lola and Bill settled down in Champaign in 1965. She was a member at Faith United Methodist Church, Champaign, and loved the Chicago Cubs and University of Illinois athletics, especially basketball. She loved to sew and cook and spend time with her entire family. She had a tremendous sense of humor and used it regularly.
Visitation for Lola will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the Faith United Methodist Church, 1719 S. Prospect Ave., Champaign. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wes Wilkey officiating.
Private graveside services will take place at the Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.
