CHAMPAIGN – Jennifer A. Smith, 42, of Champaign passed away on Sunday (Sept. 8, 2013), surrounded by her loving family.
Jennifer was born Oct. 31, 1970, in Peoria, daughter of Galen and Marilyn (Burrow) Haegele. She married James Smith on March 1, 2008, in Las Vegas.
In addition to her husband, she is lovingly remembered by her father and her stepmother, Debra Haegele of Davenport, Iowa; son, Andrew Haegele of Berwyn; two daughters, Abigail (Katie) Sanders-Jones of French Lick, Ind., and Ashley Fowler of Paris, Ill.; a stepson, Devin (Kristina) Smith of Champaign; stepgrandson, Alex Smith of Champaign; two sisters, Barbara Haegele of Urbana and Dawn (Troy) Toler of Clarinda, Iowa; a half brother, Jason (Nicole) Haegele of Rantoul; two half sisters, Melissa (Matthew) Risberg of Granger, Iowa, and Michelle (Matthew) Peitz of Decatur; two nephews, Jacob Toler of Castle Rock, Colo., and Grant Toler of Frederick, Colo.; five nieces, Madison and Isabella Toler, both of Clarinda, Iowa, Temperance Peitz of Decatur, Addison Risberg of Granger, Iowa, and Evelyn Haegele of Rantoul; and her uncle, Lyle Malinowski of Morton.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; mother; and aunt, Carolyn (Burrow) Malinowski.
Jennifer graduated from Paris High School in 1988 and attended nursing school at Vincennes University.
She had a deep love for her family, her dog Rosie, and her community.
Please join her family at St. John Lutheran Church (fellowship hall), 509 S. Mattis Ave., Champaign, on Saturday, Sept. 14, to celebrate her life. Greet the family from 10 to 11 a.m., with a Celebration of Life service following at 11 a.m.
