CISSNA PARK – Roland W. Meyer, 86, of Cissna Park passed away Wednesday (Oct. 16, 2013, at Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth.
Roland was born April 3, 1927, in Crescent Township, the son of August J. and Ella Rabe Meyer. He married Louella J. Benner on Aug. 13, 1950, in Crescent City and she preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 1998.
He is survived by two sons, Rodney (Peggy) Meyer of Lincoln and John (Dianne) Meyer of Abrams, Wis.; one daughter, Janice L. (Eric) Meyer of Greenup; six grandchildren, Gayle Meyer, Ryan (Catherine) Meyer, Denise (Rich) Alvarez, Jonathan Meyer, Philip Meyer and Julia Meyer; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Marlin Meyer and Gerald Meyer.
Mr. Meyer served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church at Schwer, the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Cissna Park American Legion, Farm Bureau and Gideons. He was the ag teacher in Cissna Park for 23 years and worked for Farm Business Farm Management for 13 years.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at St. John Lutheran Church at Schwer. The Rev. Matt Steendahl will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery at Schwer.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park and one hour prior to the service at the church.
