PORTAGE, Mich. – Tedd Alan Childers, 47, of Portage, Mich., passed away on Sunday (Dec. 22, 2013).
Tedd was born in Urbana on Aug. 16, 1966, the son of the late Darrell Wayne and Amelia Ann (Watts) Childers. He graduated from Jamaica High School in Sidell and then attended the University of Illinois, where he received his bachelor's degree in microbiology and immunology.
While at the UI, he belonged to the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity. He worked as a lab manager at Pylon Tech (North Carolina State University Veterinary School) and as principal scientist for Zoetis.
He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer, who enjoyed making his own clubs, and enjoyed hunting.
He was married to Jane (Korzekwinski) Childers on Aug. 26, 1995; she survives him.
He is also survived by six children, Gabriella, Annabel, Zachary, Alexander, Benjamin and Joshua Childers, all of Portage; two brothers and one sister, Todd (Kathy) Childers of Monticello, Tammy (Donald) Hodgson of Homer and Tim (Jeannine) Robinson of St. Joseph; two nephews and three nieces; and one great-nephew.
Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. Ninth St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where a rosary service will be held at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at St. Monica Catholic Church, 534 W. Kilgore Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49008. Private interment will be in Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park - North.
