VILLA GROVE – William E. "Bill" Marlatt, 83, of Villa Grove passed away at 8:32 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 4, 2014) at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.

Bill was born June 9, 1930, in Villa Grove, the son of Harry and Mabel Marlatt. He married Dorothy McNussen on May 20, 1950.

He is survived by two children, Jackie Jacobs of Atlanta, Ga., and Kevin Marlatt of Villa Grove; a sister, Betty Davis of Villa Grove; five grandchildren, Ryan, Timothy, Sarah, Katie and Clayton; and four great-grandchildren, Allison, Chase, Madison and Alexis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, "Bud" Marlatt.

From 1952 to 1954, Bill served as a communications specialist in the U.S. Army, 25th Infantry Division, with a Turkish brigade during the Korean Conflict. He worked in the Computer and Communications Services Office at the University of Illinois for 30 years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Villa Grove, served as a trustee for Camargo Township for many years, and was a member of the VFW and Lions Club.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, raising orchids and, after retirement, living in Florida during the winter months.

A celebration of Bill's life will be at noon Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Joines Funeral Home, 1375 N. State Route 130, Villa Grove, with the visitation from 10 a.m. to noon preceding the memorial service on Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or the VFW of Villa Grove.
