Jerald 'Jerry' Ramshaw Sr.
CHAMPAIGN – Jerald E. "Jerry" Ramshaw Sr., 77, of Champaign passed away peacefully at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 18, 2014) at home.
He was born April 13, 1936, in Springfield. Jerry married Pat (Alice) Hamilton in 1957; they were happily married for 57 years. Together they raised one son, Jerry Ramshaw (Christie) and four girls, Alisa Chapman, Laura Baker (Mike), Susan Ramshaw and Katie Henderson (Matt).
He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, Courtnie, Jay, Meredith and Charlie Ramshaw (Allie), Patrick Ostrowski (Beth), Andrew Owstroski, Joe Chapman, Nicholas, Jamie, Abigail and Nathan Baker, Erin, Johnny and Jimmy Henderson; and two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Kennedy Ramshaw.
His sister, Donna Moore, also survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Jeanette; his brothers, Robert and Clarence; and sister, Jean Collins.
He attended Springfield Junior College and the University of Illinois majoring in electrical engineering. He began working at GHR Engineering in 1958, becoming head of electrical engineering in 1960, a partner in 1979 and stockholder/principal in 1989.
Jerry was a Registered Professional Engineer in Wisconsin and Texas. He was also a member of the Illinois and National Societies of Professional Engineers, the Illinois Electrical Inspectors Association, the Illuminating Engineering Society and the Building Officials Code Administration.
Jerry was a wonderful brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He enjoyed woodworking, the Fighting Illini, watching football, basketball and playing golf, but above all else he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren's many sporting events over the years.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Carle Cardiology Department and especially Dr. Sanchez, Carle Palliative/Hospice Care and friend of the family, Dr. Scott Brannan, who went over and above the call of duty to comfort our entire family in our home the evening of Jerry's passing.
We thank God for the gift of Jerry's life and the blessings of the time we spent with him.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today (Friday) at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1307 Lincolnshire Drive, Champaign, with a lunch following in St. Matthew's Feeney Hall.
