Martha Drew

URBANA – Martha I. Drew, 90, of Urbana, formerly of Monticello, passed away on Friday (March 7, 2014) at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Urbana.

Martha was born in Schuyler County, Plymouth, Ill., (on a farm a few miles south of Plymouth) on May 1, 1923, the daughter of Roland Elbert Drew and Martha (Mattie) Mabel Cox Drew.

Survivors include her half sister, Barbara Wells of Lakemont, Ga.; several nieces and nephews, special friends located across the United States; and her longtime friend and caregiver, Mrs. John (Kay) Place of Homer.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Harold Elbert Drew.

Miss Drew received bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of Illinois at Urbana, and a Ph.D. degree in business from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colo. She was a retired professor from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston.

Miss Drew was a lifetime member of the University of Illinois and the University of Northern Colorado Alumni Associations, an honorary member of the Kirksville Osteopathic Alumni Association of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, Mo., along with various other professional organizations throughout her career.

Martha enjoyed traveling extensively in the United States, Mexico, Canada and Europe. After retirement, she was a companion and caregiver for lifelong friend Dr. Louise Astell, formerly of Monticello.

There is no visitation. Burial will be private in Round Prairie Cemetery, Plymouth, Ill.

Memorials may be made to an organization of the donor's choice.
