CHAMPAIGN – Gloria Jean Porter, 58, of Champaign, formerly from Chicago, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Celebration of Life services will be held on Thursday, April 17, at Jericho Missionary Baptist Church, 1601 W. Bloomington Road, Champaign. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with services following at noon. Officiant will be Pastor Lekevie C. Johnson.
Gloria Jean Porter was born to the late Melvin Daniels and Ella Mae Ivy in Chicago. Gloria later met and married Gregory Porter Sr., who preceded her in death. Through this great union, five children were born.
Gloria was the matriarch of the Porter and Ivy Family; her wit and humor were embraced at all the family gatherings.
Gloria had a very deep appreciation for music; you could catch her some days humming to The Temptations, while other days she would hum softly to her favorite gospel tunes.
Gloria's artistic abilities were also expressed through a large collection of poems that family and friends would always request for special occasions.
Gloria was known to help and feed anyone, always displaying the heart of a true Christian. Gloria stayed a faithful warrior until the end, uplifting others in their times of sorrow even though she was the one ill. Gloria proved herself to be a true soldier in the Army of the Lord and her family.
Gloria leaves to mourn her loss her children, grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of other family members and friends.
Rest in the arms of the Lord now, Mrs. Gloria Jean Porter. Funeral services were entrusted to Williams Memorial Services, 1203 N. Market St., Champaign.
