CHAMPAIGN – Charles Vernon Rotramel, 83, of Champaign died on Saturday (July 5, 2014) at Illini Heritage Nursing Home, Champaign.
There will be a visitation from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Green officiating. Interment will be in Eastlawn Burial Park, Urbana. Military rites will be accorded.
Chuck was born Dec. 15, 1930, at Thomasboro, a son of Charles and Lena (Smith) Rotramel. He married Imogene Smith on July 10, 1949, at Urbana.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene, and their son, Stephen M. Rotramel.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews; a brother, William Rotramel of Champaign; and a sister, Dolly (Frank) Young of Mahomet.
Chuck worked as a district salesman for Chef Boyardee. Upon retirement, he began working at the University of Illinois where he did insulation work and drove the Zamboni at the ice rink.
He was a life member of the VFW, the Elks and the American Legion. A proud Army veteran, Chuck served from February 1952 to September 1953.
