MANSFIELD – Darwin Eugene Alexander, 79, of Mansfield passed away at his residence at 11:59 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 14, 2016).

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Mansfield, with Pastor Lynette DeAtley officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Military rites will be accorded following the service. Inurnment will be in Mansfield Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Darwin was born on April 13, 1936 in Decatur, a son of Birtie Irene Alexander. He was raised by his Aunt Marie and Uncle Bill Shupe. He married Patricia M. Kennedy on Sept. 5, 1958, in Mansfield.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Mansfield; three children, Darwin Eugene (Jo) Alexander II of Carrollton, Ill., Deborah L. (Randy) Cain of Philo and Robert W. Alexander I of Mansfield; five grandchildren, Darwin Eugene Alexander III, Matthew Holderly, Katelynn Alexander, Robert W. Alexander II and Christina Holderly; and two great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Alexander and Darwin Eugene Alexander IV.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one great-grandson, Zeke Owen Alexander.

He retired in 1991 after 43 years as a truck driver. He last drove for ABF Freight Line Company, Champaign. Darwin served in the U.S. Army.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank Carle Hospice and Darwin's nurse, Tara Lemmon, for the care of Darwin during his illness.
