PAXTON – Joan Eleanor (Sullivan) Burnett, 82, of Paxton passed away 4:45 p.m. Friday (Feb. 24, 2017) at Illinois Knights Templar Home, Paxton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 407 W. Pells St., Paxton, with Father Scaria Thoppil officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells St., Paxton, followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m.

Joan was born on May 19, 1934, to a Ms. Clare Thomas in St. Louis, Mo., and adopted by James and Frances Ella (Kindhart) Sullivan, Mount Sterling, in 1936 after fostering her from 6 months on.

She married Sidney Lee Burnett on Sept. 13, 1955, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mount Sterling. He preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1994.

She loved family and is survived by four children, Charles Lee (Kathy) Burnett of Paxton, Lee Ann (Mark) LeClair of Paxton, Clinton Jay (Alona) Burnett of Memphis, Tenn., and Penny Jo (Donnie) Stevens of Paxton; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Leota Sullivan; brother-in-law, Maurice Burnett; one nephew; and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and an adopted brother, Donald Lee (Tannehill) Sullivan.

Joan, being an Air Force wife, traveled to many states, as well as overseas to Okinawa. She held a cosmetology license for 42 years, owning JB's Hair Styling in Paxton for 10 years, now Kathy's Salon.

Her interests were in sewing, jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. She also led an exercise class three days a week at the Illinois Knights Templar Home in Paxton for the past two years, keeping her active.
