TUSCOLA – Julian E. Thoman, 90, of Tuscola passed away at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 8, 2017) at Carriage Crossing, Arcola.

Services celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 S. Main St., Tuscola, with military rites accorded.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Private family burial will be held at the McInturff Cemetery, Hagarstown.

Mr. Thoman was born Nov. 24, 1926, in Fayette County, the son of Edward Lloyd and Lena Sophia Braun Thoman. He married Betty Jean Siebert on Feb. 12, 1949, in Vandalia. She survives.

Other survivors include his daughter, Pamela (David) McDonald of Kingston, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Christina (Larry) Edwards of Pekin, Amy (Mike) McGarigle of Broadlands, Dawn (Anthony) Mannino of Morton and Dean (Kris) McDonald of Muncie, Ind.; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Julian was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Deborah Ann Thoman.

Mr. Thoman attended the University of Illinois and was in the Navy ROTC program. He then served his country in U.S. Navy.

Julian farmed for several years and then worked for the Douglas County and Coles County ASCS office for over 40 years.

He was a very active member of the Tuscola United Methodist Church and United Methodist's Men and Missions group. Julian and his wife both volunteered countless hours helping with the SAM Food Pantry. He was a longtime member of the Tuscola Rotary Club, Douglas County Health Department board and both IASCOE and NASCOE.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials are suggested to the SAM Food Pantry or to the Tuscola United Methodist Church.
