CHAMPAIGN – Leroy Meeks Jr. was born June 5, 1957, in Chicago, Ill., to Leroy Meeks Sr. and Mary Bradley, both of whom have preceded him in death.

Leroy was blessed with five siblings: three brothers, Jerry Davis (deceased), Lamar Davis and Lynner Meeks; and two sisters, Irma Harris and Gwendolyn Osler.

Leroy attended Hefferan Elementary School and graduated from Austin High School in Chicago. He moved to Champaign in 1993, accepted Christ in his life and joined Canaan Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor B.J. Tatum.

In 1994, Leroy began working in ministry as the assistant manager for the SAFE House, which was a substance abuse rehabilitation facility for men founded by Pastor Tatum during his tenure at Canaan. He worked several years at the SAFE House diligently and faithfully, helping men become viable role models in the community.

In 2010, Leroy joined Kingdom Connection Outreach Center under the leadership of Pastor (Dr.) Davita Bernard. He further matured naturally and spiritually and became a deacon in this ministry. He was faithful committed and tenacious about serving God, the pastor and the church family.

Leroy Meeks Jr. has left to cherish his memory three biological children, Leroy Meeks III, Donta Meeks and Moneisha Meeks, all of Champaign; his brother, Lamar Davis (Marie) of Chicago; his sister, Irma Harris (Reverend Johnny) of Champaign; his brother, Lynner Meeks (Jasmine) of Columbus, Mo.; his sister, Gwendolyn Osler( Sylvester) of Champaign; his life partner, Katrina Johnson of Champaign; many children he raised as his own; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Home-going services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at Canaan Baptist Church with Dr. Davita Bernard officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Garden.

I am truly going to miss him he was our biggest fan towards the choir he told us "we better sang like it was out last time" we love and misS you!
