Larry Coon

CISCO – Larry W. Coon, 70, of Cisco, passed away at 6:22 a.m. January 12, 2018, at Kirby Medical Center, Monticello.

Larry was born February 1, 1947, in Macon County, IL, the son of Lawrence and Opal (Geer) Coon. He married Ellen M. Vanderbeck on January 3, 1970, in Glen Rock, New Jersey.

Larry is survived by his wife, Ellen Coon of Cisco; daughter, Tamahra Coon Weber of Cisco; and sister, Lucia Coon Wilkin of Monticello. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Tim Coon.

Larry was a retired farmer who worked 44 years with Wilkin Farms. He graduated from the Cisco Grade School and the Monticello High School class of 1965.

Larry served his country after he was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966.

He was a 51-year member of Craig-Reed American Legion Post 1181, the Cisco United Methodist Church, and the Coffee Clutches at Topflight and McDonald's. Larry also served on the Cisco Volunteer Fire Department, drainage ditch commissioner, Croninger Cemetery trustee, Faith in Action ramp builders, Habitat for Humanity firewood splitters, and was active in 4-H. Larry enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, boating, and vacationing in Mexico. Larry loved spending time with his family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 15, 2018, at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at the Cisco United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rick Pierce officiating.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Harbor Lights Hospice Association, the Cisco United Methodist Church or the Craig-Reed American Legion Post.
