Susan Galt

MONTICELLO – Susan C. "Sue" Galt, 86, of Monticello passed away on March 5, 2018, at OSF Health Care Heart of Mary Medical Center, Urbana.

Sue was born April 10, 1931, in Anna, the daughter of Joe and Susan (Finch) Davidson. She married Robert Galt on July 22, 1950, in Monticello.

She is survived by her son, Roger Galt (Sandy); daughter, Jenny Galt; brothers, John Davidson (Carol) and Kenneth Davidson (Mary); daughter-in-law, Lavon Donley-Cornett; grandchildren, Matthew, Phillip and Kathy Galt; great-grandchildren, Faith and Andrew Galt; as well as many cherished relatives from her husband's side of the family and many loved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (1997) and sister, Jodie Steggerda (Dec. 2017).

A graduate of Monticello High School in 1949 and a member of the UI Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Sue remained a Fighting Illini sports fan until the end and enjoyed all kinds of sports on TV. Sue was a paramedic for Kirby Hospital and in her younger years she played golf, tennis and won the State Title in Women's Trap Shooting.

She was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church and the Monticello Golf Club. She enjoyed playing Bridge, loved her cat Punkin II and will miss her Friday nights out with friends and the visits from her neighbors, as her door was always open. She most enjoyed going to listen to her favorite band, The Miscellaneous 2 Man Band, play at the Lucky Monkey in Bement.

While we could never acknowledge all those here who helped the family with this journey, we would like to give special thanks to Lavon Donley-Cornett, Lissa Dighton and Paula Heath who were with her in her final hour as well as many days of health and happiness. Also, sincere thanks to Connie Barber for always being there for Sue.

Sue continued to make new friends, young and old in age, even late in life, because she was genuine and fun. We will miss her humor, opinions, readiness to "go-see-do" and her inspiring strength.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2018, at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Monticello, with Fr. Bruce Lopez officiating. Interment will be held in Monticello Township Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Piatt County Ecumenical Food Bank or the Piatt County Animal Shelter.
