Lois Mae Owens

VILLA GROVE — Lois Mae Owens, 91, of Villa Grove died at 8:53 a.m. at home in Villa Grove,  2 Timothy 4 says “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day." Lois Mae Owens got her crown of righteousness early Saturday (June 9, 2018) as she peacefully passed to her new life.

Lois was born in Louisville, Ill., on March 27, 1927, to Ben and Rena (Smith) Nash. She was married to V. E. (Andy) Owens on Jan. 6, 1943. Andy preceded her in death March 27, 2001 (he waited to tell her happy birthday). She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth Lowell Nash; and son-in-law, Terry Harvey.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl (Kenny) Rupp and Linda Harvey; two granddaughters, Sara Rupp and Abby (Eric) Springer; three stepgrandchildren, Brian (Kate) Harvey, Kristen Harvey and Kevin (Heather) Harvey; five great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.

Lois retired from the University of Illinois Business Office with 30 years of service, then worked part time for Countryside church in Sidney, then moved on to the office at Stone Creek Church in Urbana. In addition to working in the office, Lois, along with Andy, became senior saints pastors, taking care of the elderly in the church. Upon Andy’s passing, she became the senior saints pastor by herself. She gave freely of herself to others. Lois truly loved her life and loved serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was her desire for her life to show the love of Christ. She loved her family with all of her heart and sacrificed whatever she had for others.

It is with heavy hearts that her family and friends let her go, but we know she is now dancing on the streets of gold! To God be the Glory!

Visitation for Lois will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2018, at Joines Funeral Home, Illinois 130 South, Villa Grove. A graveside service and burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018, in Villa Grove Cemetery. A celebration of life service will take place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Stone Creek Church, Urbana, with Pastor Ricky Spindler and Pastor Gary Grogan officiating.
