Mary Zemke

HOOPESTON — Mary Eileen Zemke, 79, of Hoopeston passed away Thursday (June 14, 2018) at 6:29 p.m. at home.

Mary was born Aug. 31, 1938, in Rossville, the daughter of Willard and Lavena (Holstine) Hughes. She married Fred Zemke on June 2, 1972.

She is survived by her husband, Fred; daughter, Rhonda (Hale) Greaves of Zionsville, Ind.; son, Cole (Kristin) Zemke of Brownsburg, Ind.; two sisters, Jeane Johnson of Peachtree City, Ga., and Susan Queen of Ipswich, Mass.; three brothers, Russell Hughes of Hoopeston, Joseph Hughes of Watseka and David Hughes of Hoopeston; and four grandchildren, Brian, Tristan, Olin and Keane.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William and Robert; and brother-in-law, Will Johnson.

Mary worked at FMC Corp in Hoopeston. She was a member of the Jehovah Witness congregation in Danville.  Her special interests were baking, walking, reading, lawn mowing and serving Jehovah. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, housekeeper and friend to many people.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018, and 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, June 21, 2018, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. The memorial service will be at noon Thursday, June 21, 2018, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery, Hoopeston.
