Charles Demlow

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — Charles "Chuck" W. Demlow, age 82, made his journey to heaven on Monday (Oct. 29, 2018).

The family would like to give a very special thank you to the nurses and staff at Grand Pine Assisted Living Center for all of the loving care they provided Charles during his stay with them. Especially the staff that support The Terrace. Also, a special thank you to the team at North Ottawa Hospice.

Chuck was born to Oscar and Lela (Zindars) Demlow on Aug. 6, 1936. He married Patsy Pointer on July 27, 1958. Chuck was predeceased by Patsy in 2012.

He will be very missed by his three children, Sharon (Tom) Schaffer of Allendale, Mich., Kim (Chris) Lamanske of Urbana and Doug Demlow of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Keith (Katie) Schaffer, Mandi (Josh) Miedema, Ray Lamanske and Kaley (Rich) Hensler of Monticello; and six great-grandchildren, Lauren Schaffer, Maci Miedema, Easton Miedema, Richard Hensler, Micah Mosher and Kyhana Austin.

Chuck was preceded in death by his wife Patsy, his parents and his brother, Michael Demlow.

After high school and a certificate from a business school, he had a short employment at a local bank, and then had an opportunity to work for Clifford Jacobs Forging Company. He retired from Clifford Jacobs after 43 years of service, with the majority of his career there as a time study engineer.

Chuck and Patsy did a great deal of traveling after retirement and spent quite a few winters in Pharr, Texas. Camping, hunting, tailgating at Illini football games, cards, and spending time with his friends at the Champaign Athletic Club were a few of most favorite activities. He was also a member of the Champaign Elks Club and had been a member of the Moose. He always had a good time, wherever he went, and whatever he was doing, especially if he was helping someone.

A service to celebrate his life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at Morgan Memorial Home, Savoy. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2018. Pastor Gary Fairchild will officiate. Burial will be in Monticello Township Cemetery, Monticello.
