HOOPESTON — Roy Lee Cherry, 89, of Hoopeston passed away at 10:55 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 10, 2019) at home at Autumn Fields Adult Community, Hoopeston.

He was born July 7, 1929, in Red Boiling Spring, Tenn., the son of Silas and Ollie Cherry. He married Martha Ann Clark on Dec. 21, 1947, in Newman. She survives in Hoopeston.

He is also survived by four daughters, Beverly (Sam) Minton of Wilkesboro, N.C., Nancy Marshall of Scottsdale, Ariz., Rose (Kenny) Holycross of West Lebanon, Ind., and Julie (Mark) Newman of Rankin; one sister, Willodeen Dixon of Bowling Green, Ky; 13 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; four brothers; one grandson, Dustin Marshall; and one great-grandson, Tyler Minton.

Roy was a farmer for over 65 years until his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hoopeston and a charter member of the Rankin Lions Club. He loved music and playing the guitar and enjoyed bowling in his younger days. Roy especially loved his family and grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 323 E. Seminary Ave., Hoopeston, with Pastor Adam Taubert officiating. Burial will follow in Rankin Union Cemetery, Rankin.
