Larry Stiverson

CHAMPAIGN — Larry Floyd Stiverson, 79, of Champaign passed away at 8:35 a.m. Friday (May 17, 2019) at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center, Urbana.

He was born Aug. 26, 1939, at Burnham Hospital, Champaign, the son of Homer Floyd and Rose Irene (Whitehouse) Stiverson.

Larry is survived by his wife, Rebecca Stiverson, and their five children, Melody (Mike) Sorrentino of Decatur, Carol Anglin of Decatur, Mike Stiverson of Tolono, Tony Stiverson of Peoria and Lisa Stiverson of Urbana; and brothers, Ed (Loretta), Max, John (Mary) and Robert (Carol). He also leaves behind four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two brothers and one sister.

He loved growing up and working on his family farm. He was loved by so many people and always acted as if he never met a stranger. If it was the first time you met him, he would talk to you like he knew you for years. His friends and co-workers from County Market nicknamed him "Sarge" because of his flat-top haircut and he was always telling people what to do. Larry was always busy; even after his retirement he would find something to do. He enjoyed spending his free time relaxing inside while reading a book and flipping channels on TV.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials can be made in Larry’s name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Champaign.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 710 N. Neil St., Champaign, IL 61820, on Thursday, May 23, 2019, from 4 to 6 p.m. A service will follow at 6 p.m.
