Baby, it's cold outside
Is this brutal winter weather ever going to end?
Snow, bitter cold, ice, wind chill — yikes!
When will it end? Soon, relatively speaking, but not soon enough. It's easy to preach patience, but much harder to practice.
Federal Reserve Board Chairwoman Janet Yellen is blaming the weak economy on the weather. Travel agents claim that their business has picked up because people stressed by the weather want to go somewhere, anywhere, warm. While most people are slowly being ground down by this winter's bitter weather, the only people with a reason to smile are the ones paid to clear roads, sidewalks, driveways and highways. Job had it tough, but at least he didn't have icicles coming out of his nose.
The author Mark Twain used to joke that everyone talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it. That's not funny, even if true, under the current circumstances.
All people can do is soldier on, thinking of better days that lie ahead. Major League Baseball players are in spring training. April showers will bring May flowers. It's only four months until the Fourth of July.
In the meantime, it's winter in Illinois. This year, that means especially cold weather exacerbated by dependably obnoxious political campaign commercials. Remember, it's not fatal, even if it seems that way.
