Here's what's up on water sale issue
In Rob Kanter's Environmental Almanac as well as a letter to the editor from Bruce Hannon in the Sunday edition of The News-Gazette, there were references to a possible deal involving Sunrise Coal and the Urbana & Champaign Sanitary District (UCSD).
Please be advised that during February there was one meeting between Sunrise and UCSD to discuss two possible proposals. There was approval by the UCSD board for further discussion in March. However, no additional meetings occurred, nor were any written proposals submitted to advance either topic.
At the May 2 board meeting, the board directed staff to advise Sunrise that UCSD would not accept any proposal for consideration. Staff met with and advised Sunrise of this decision.
In addition, if ever there is a proposal from Sunrise, the UCSD board has committed to hosting a special public meeting before making any decisions. The media and interested parties would be notified of such a meeting. If you wish to comment about Sunrise Coal at this time, please submit those comments in writing to UCSD and they will be included in any consideration.
As a result of this, at the special board meeting scheduled for this Wednesday (May 7) at 6:30 p.m, the UCSD board will review the concept of selling effluent or biosolids generally, plus the specific proposal of selling effluent to Cronus Chemical, which may locate west of Tuscola.
