Create a safe walking path on stretch of U.S. 45
Nearly enough has been written about southeast Urbana's sidewalk to almost nowhere. I have finally seen three or four people on the north-south segment of it.
I suppose, or hope, that a needs survey was done before its construction, but if so, the survey was flawed.
What is needed, however, is a sidewalk extending north from Perkins Road along U.S. 45 (Cunningham Avenue) to at least O'Brien Drive. There are fairly well-worn foot paths in the grass beside U.S. 45, and I have at least twice seen people pushing baby carriages in U.S. 45 because the shoulders were impassable to the carriage. And there was a baby on board.
This is obviously an unsafe practice, but there is no reasonable alternative.
