This year's Relay for Life raised more than $215,000

On behalf of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Champaign County committee, I would like to say, "amazing."

Thanks to tremendous public support, Relay For Life of Champaign County had 91 teams participate, celebrated alongside more than 3,500 survivors and caregivers and watched as nearly 1,500 luminaria were lit to honor loved ones. In addition, we raised more than $215,000 to help in the fight against cancer.

This was our 19th year for Relay in Champaign County, and over this time span, we have raised over $3 million for the American Cancer Society.

The money enables the American Cancer Society to continue to lead the way in advancing cancer prevention, treatment, patient services and cures. For instance, Relay helps fund programs to help the newly diagnosed, including the society's Patient Navigation Services, designed to fill a critical void in health care and social services by acting as a full-service navigator to anyone touched by cancer.

Everyone coming together — local businesses, survivors, caregivers and community members — is what makes the American Cancer Society Relay for Life such a special and important event.

When we walk together, we are bigger than cancer. We are grateful to the many people who joined with us to save lives faster and create a world with more birthdays.
