On the lighter side of the new format

On the lighter side of the new format

Do only old folks read the paper these days?

This morning I laughed until I cried, then came into the shop and showed my staff all of these letters to the editor regarding paper and text size.

I find this so humorous.

At a time when perhaps only the older citizens are taking the paper in print, we are making them squint to read all of the fun stuff like comics and crossword puzzles. We want them to enjoy expanding their minds and fending off mental-aging diseases and perhaps a crossword puzzle a day may help with that.

But not now, only the youth can read the paper. Just kidding.

Before long, The News-Gazette will only be on microfiche.

It’s like the hamburgers of the 1970s. My Dad said the burger was shrinking under the bun. His famous line was “back up, you just bit over it.”

Well, perhaps The News-Gazette is easier to fit in your back pocket, which makes it more portable, but you may have to read it twice to get the same bang for your buck.

My thought is, cater to your market, print fewer articles and make the text giant. Win-Win!
