Davis' emails are full of nonsense

Davis' emails are full of nonsense

U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, says he encourages his constituents to communicate with him.

I took him at his word and drove to Monticello recently for an opportunity to speak with him face to face. My topic, my only topic: the Dreamers and passage of DACA.

I received two emails from Congressman Davis.

Here are excerpts:

"Dear Ms. Marlow,

"Thank you for contacting me regarding your thoughts on H.R. 3826, the Electricity Security and Affordability Act. I appreciate hearing from my constituents and the time you took to share your thoughts."

And:

"Dear Ms. Marlow,

"Thank you for contacting me regarding the Save Our Seas (SOS) Act of 2017. I appreciate hearing from constituents in my district and the time you took to share your thoughts."

I had heard from friends that this sort of exchange happens often. For example, a friend contacted Davis about climate change and got a response about exotic animals as pets. My daughter called his office about the ACA, and the response she received said, "Thank you for contacting me regarding your thoughts on President Donald Trump's tweets."

Talking to Representative Davis is like trying to communicate with the Jabberwocky in Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There" — confusing and futile.

It is unlikely I will ever again go out of my way to speak to Jabberwocky Davis.
