Stohr well versed in county issues

We recommend our neighbor Chris Stohr as a strong candidate for a District 10 seat on the Champaign County Board in the primary election. He already is serving as an appointed board member, and we think his performance shows competence and serious interest in the position's responsibilities.

Talking to him at times about issues of the county nursing home, the new county executive office, the inadequacies of the county budget and the county jail, we found he has quickly made himself well-informed about these matters.

His volunteer work with a prisoner rehabilitation project has given him personal familiarity with the jail facility and its people. He talks with department heads, observes operations, and looks into methods other counties use.

Knowing Chris over the decades, as a friend and as a professional scientist-engineer, we think he brings useful experience and moderate outlook to difficult problems like those confronting our county government in a new century.

Chris has provided dependable support for community projects for years. He participates in his neighborhood association's projects, which reinvigorated Urbana's Victory Park. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Patrick's Church and works with Empty Tomb and other charitable organizations.

This election cycle will inaugurate a new form of county government; we will elect a county executive and enable creation of the new office serving it. We recommend Chris as a fair-minded, experienced, informed citizen that District 10 would do well to have in place.
