Abortion reveals compassion deficit

Many people are rightly saddened and outraged about the tragic school shooting in Florida and wondering how to prevent this from happening again.

Although many would like to cast this as a simple solution in terms of gun access, the reality is most likely more complicated. Many factors may be relevant, such as lack of interpersonal contact, loss of nuclear families, untreated mental illness and gratuitous violence in entertainment.

However, what message are we sending those who may be misguided or evil when we condone legalized murder every single day by allowing 3,000 pre-born babies to be killed thru abortion?

Many of those who speak out against school shootings are also those who speak out in support of abortion. Do we truly care about our fellow human beings or do we only care about some of them?

Mother Teresa had many wonderful quotes, but one in particular seems relevant at this time. "We must not be surprised when we hear of murders, of killings, of wars, of hatred. If a mother can kill her own child, what is left but to kill each other?"

Everyone wants to prevent school shootings. One simple step toward this goal would be to acknowledge our shared humanity and to stop supporting the mass murder of pre-born babies.

Certainly, anyone with an ounce of compassion feels for the families of the 17 people whose lives were lost in this shooting. Where is the compassion for the 3,000 babies whose lives are lost daily?
