Gill's values make him best on ballot

As a progressive, a veteran and the daughter of an immigrant, I would like to see our country do better this fall than merely beat back the tide of destructive hypernationalism in America.

Let's make the national Democratic Party work for all people by choosing challengers with truly progressive platforms. We need representatives who will work for the many, not the few.

Here, that candidate is David Gill, who has served this area his entire career as a physician and as Illinois assistant director of public health.

While Dr. Gill has run before, he's done it with progressive principles, even when it wasn't politically popular to reject corporate funding. He has been endorsed by Justice Democrats, whose comprehensive platform every progressive should read.

Dr. Gill also stands for the Fight For a $15 minimum wage, criminal justice reform to include closing private prisons and legalizing marijuana, and tuition-free access to higher education. He stands with unions — he personally attended a GEO strike rally recently, something I haven't seen any other candidate for the 13th Congressional District do.

Most importantly, Dr. Gill has fought for single-payer health care with Physicians for a National Health Program for 25 years. He has the knowledge, the training and the firsthand experience of how the health care industry profits off of the sick and suffering. He's ready to lead us into the same century as every other developed country with Medicare For All.

Change is here. It's time. We just need to vote it in.
