Letter to the Editor | Burnham decision was a good move

This is a response to the May 11 letter by Becky Gadbury. I am not a resident of Champaign, I do not personally know any of the Champaign school board members and I have no interest is saving a dilapidated old building.

I do have an issue with her derision of a sound fiscal compromise between the school board and the mansion preservationists.

The board was going to spend about $50,000 to demolish and haul away the mansion. Does it really matter whom they give the $50,000 to as long as they end up with the same empty plot, to build a parking lot on?

I appreciate them for finding a way to appease the save Burnham crowd and not spend any more money than was originally allocated for the building removal. I suppose, technically, they actually made $10 on the purchase price of the structure.
