Letter to the Editor | All Americans have a right to life

July 4 is a very important American holiday. Many people celebrate with cookouts and time spent socializing with family and friends. Many celebrate by attending local parades and fireworks.

Hopefully, many took a moment to stop and recognize that we were celebrating the formal adoption of the Declaration of Independence. This incredibly important document states that we are all created equal and that we are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights, including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Yet, more than 200 years after this document was established, we have many Americans who are not treated as equals and whose most basic right, the right to life, is not acknowledged.

All other rights proceed from the right to life, so it really is critically important. The Declaration of Independence further states "that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it."

Roe vs. Wade allowed what has now become abortion on demand in America, resulting in 2,000 Americans whose lives are terminated every day. Science has proven when life begins, and a quick Google search explains pre-natal development from the moment of conception.

Given that Roe vs. Wade has resulted in the destruction of the right to life, it is the right of the people to abolish it. It is long past time to correct this wrong to ensure that all Americans are treated as equals and that all Americans have the right to life.
