Bill Denny states in his letter on Oct. 3 that "scientific endeavors are forgone conclusions" because scientists use "naturalism."

If, by "naturalism," Denny means "based on observed phenomena," he is right. But there are no "foregone conclusions" in science.

We observe and learn how things work. We may always encounter phenomena that contradict our prior understanding, and science revises its solutions. No "foregone conclusions."
